Frequently asked questions

Why is Fátima important?

In 1917, three shepherd children reported seeing apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the fields outside the village. The Sanctuary built on that site is now one of the most visited Catholic pilgrimage destinations in the world, drawing millions of visitors each year, religious and non-religious alike.

How do I choose between the Fátima tours?

If you only have time for the Sanctuary itself, the full-day Fátima tour is enough. If you want to see more of central Portugal in the same day, the Nazaré and Óbidos route or the fuller heritage route add real variety without rushing any single stop. For a deeper pilgrimage experience over several days, the Three Shrines tour links Fátima to Santiago de Compostela.

Is there an entrance fee for the Sanctuary of Fátima?

No. Entry to the Sanctuary grounds and basilicas is free. There is no ticket to book in advance, so the day is built entirely around your pace, not a timed entry slot.

How much time should I plan for Fátima?

A half day covers the Sanctuary itself comfortably. A full day lets you combine it with one or two nearby towns, such as Nazaré or Óbidos, without feeling rushed at either.

Can a Fátima tour be combined with other stops?

Yes. Fátima sits roughly midway between Lisbon and Porto, so it also works well as a stop added to a Lisbon to Porto private transfer, rather than a dedicated day trip, if your itinerary allows it.
