Itinerary
We collect you from your hotel in the Lisbon area and drive north, about 1 hour and 30 minutes, to Mira de Aire, home to the largest cave system open to the public in Portugal. A local cave guide leads you roughly an hour through illuminated galleries of stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years, descending well below ground on paved walkways with handrails. From there it's a short drive, about 20 minutes, to the Sanctuary of Fátima. You'll have time to take in the esplanade, the small Chapel of Apparitions built on the exact site of the 1917 events, and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, with your driver-guide on hand to explain the history. We head back to Lisbon once you're ready, about 1 hour and 20 minutes, typically arriving in the late afternoon.

The Mira de Aire caves involve stairs and underground passages that can feel enclosed in places, so this tour isn't recommended if you're uncomfortable with tight or confined spaces, and it isn't suitable for pregnant travelers. The caves aren't wheelchair- or stroller-accessible. Infants can't travel on laps; if you need an infant seat, tell us the ages when you book and we'll have one ready. Pets can't come along either, since neither the caves nor the vehicle are set up for them.
We'll need your hotel name and street address to arrange pickup. If your hotel isn't listed but falls within Greater Lisbon, just tell us after booking — there's no extra charge for the pickup.
