Itinerary

Day 1 — Lisbon & Sintra

We collect you from your hotel in the Lisbon area in the morning. We start in Belém, where you'll see the Tower of Belém and the Jerónimos Monastery, Lisbon's two UNESCO World Heritage Sites — we view both from the outside, as they're really landmarks to photograph and walk around rather than places that need a long visit. In the afternoon we drive out to Sintra for a guided visit inside Pena Palace, the hilltop, brightly coloured 19th-century palace that gives the Sintra hills their UNESCO listing — your ticket and guided visit are included. We drop you at your hotel in the Sintra or greater Lisbon area for the night (accommodation isn't included — see "What's included" below).

Day 2 — Óbidos, Nazaré, Alcobaça & Batalha

Your driver-guide collects you in the morning and we head north. Our first stop is Óbidos, a walled medieval town you can explore on foot along its cobbled streets and castle ramparts — free to enter. From there we continue to Nazaré, where we visit the pilgrimage church at the Sítio viewpoint, built on the site of a centuries-old Marian devotion, with the cliffside view over the beach below — entry is free. Next is a guided visit inside the Monastery of Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest medieval churches in Portugal — ticket included. We finish the day at the Monastery of Batalha, another UNESCO site, with a guided visit inside, including its famous Unfinished Chapels open to the sky — ticket included. We drop you at your hotel for the night near Batalha or Fátima (accommodation isn't included).

Day 3 — Fátima & Tomar, return to Lisbon

Your driver-guide collects you in the morning for a visit to the Sanctuary of Fátima, one of the world's most visited Catholic shrines — entry is always free. From there we continue to Tomar for a guided visit inside the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former stronghold of the Knights Templar, with its extraordinary Manueline window and cloisters — ticket included. We then drive back to Lisbon, typically arriving in the early evening.

Please note

This is a 3-day tour, and the two overnight stays aren't included — you'll need to book your own hotels. If you'd like suggestions, just ask us when you book and we're happy to recommend a few options near where each day ends.

Tickets and guided visits are already included at Pena Palace, Alcobaça, Batalha and Tomar, so there's nothing to arrange there. Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery are viewed from the outside as a photo stop, and Óbidos, Nazaré and Fátima are all free to explore, so no other tickets are needed on this tour.

The vehicle isn't wheelchair- or stroller-accessible, and infants can't travel on laps — please let us know the ages of everyone in your group when you book. Bookings need to be made at least 1 day before departure.

We'll need your hotel name and street address in Lisbon to arrange pickup. If your hotel isn't listed but falls within Greater Lisbon, just tell us after booking — there's no extra charge for the pickup.
