Itinerary
Óbidos
We start in Óbidos, a small walled town with a castle and cobbled streets that has barely changed in centuries. It's an easy, pleasant walk with no set entrance fee.
Nazaré
Next, Nazaré — the fishing town that holds the world record for the biggest wave ever surfed. We stop at the clifftop viewpoint over Praia do Norte, where that record wave broke.
Alcobaça
In Alcobaça we visit the church of the monastery, free to enter, where the tombs of Pedro and Inês — Portugal's best-known tragic love story — face each other across the transept.
Batalha
Batalha's monastery is one of the most striking Gothic buildings in Portugal, built to commemorate a 14th-century battle. The church is free to enter; the cloisters and Unfinished Chapels have a small optional ticket.
Fátima
We end at Fátima, the pilgrimage site where three shepherd children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1917. The sanctuary grounds and both basilicas are free to enter.

In Óbidos we walk the narrow streets inside the medieval walls below the castle. In Nazaré we stop at the clifftop viewpoint over the beach known for its record-breaking big waves.
