Day 1 — Lisbon to Porto
The drive north
We leave Lisbon in the morning and drive to Porto, about 3h30 on the highway, with a stop along the way to stretch your legs.
Porto's historic center
A walk through Porto's Ribeira district along the Douro riverfront, past its stacked houses and narrow lanes.
River cruise on the Douro
A short cruise on the Douro, passing under Porto's six bridges, including the Dom Luís I.
Port wine tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia
Across the river, a Port wine tasting in one of the traditional cellars where the wine is aged.
Overnight in Porto
You'll spend the night in Porto — the hotel isn't included, but we're happy to suggest places to stay.
Day 2 — Into the Douro Valley
Along the river to the Douro Valley
We drive east into the Douro Valley, one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, with terraced vineyards climbing the hillsides on both banks.
Wine tasting at a quinta
A stop at a quinta (wine estate) in the valley for a wine tasting, looking out over the vineyards and the river below.
Overnight in the Douro Valley
You'll spend the second night in the Douro Valley — again, the hotel isn't included, and we're happy to suggest places to stay.
Day 3 — Douro Valley to Lisbon
River cruise among the vineyards
A second river cruise, this time on the Douro as it winds through the valley, with terraced vineyards rising on both banks.
Wine and olive oil tasting
At a second quinta, a wine tasting alongside an olive oil tasting — the Douro Valley produces both.
