How a family holiday shaped our most popular tour

This itinerary didn't come from market research. It's a personal memory.

It started in the summer of 2012, on a family holiday in Carvoeiro. I watched my daughter Inês, then 12, exploring the tunnels and natural windows at Boneca and Algar Seco, and it struck me how much more these places gave her than the crowded main beach ever could.

I also took the family to Praia da Marinha, a beach they hadn't seen yet. Carvoeiro was full of people; Marinha was quiet, and we finally had space to relax. It became the place we'd go back to every time.

The pieces were there — the cliffs, the exploring — but it only came together two years later, when an American journalist asked me to guide her and her husband to the Benagil Sea Cave specifically.

That's when it clicked. Connect the Seven Hanging Valleys trail, the quiet of Marinha, the rock formations in Carvoeiro, and the boat to Benagil, and you have a full day in the Algarve — exactly what I wanted for my own family.
