Algarve Private Tour from Lisbon — Benagil Caves Boat Trip

10 to 12 hours

Easy

A full day in the Algarve — dramatic coastline, hidden sea caves, and total flexibility.

Your private day trip from Lisbon begins with a door-to-door pick-up from your hotel. Choose your departure time based on how you want to experience the Algarve coast.

The 7 AM departure takes you first to Praia da Marinha for an easy 30–40 minute coastal walk, before stopping at Boneca and Algar Seco — two of the most dramatic rock formations on the coast. Then, on to the boat.

The 9 AM departure heads straight to Benagil in time for the boat.

Both options include a shared boat excursion into the Benagil sea cave — one of the most photographed places in Portugal, and for good reason. An exclusive boat can be arranged on request.

After the caves, lunch is yours to enjoy at a local restaurant — your guide will know exactly where to go. The afternoon is flexible: head back along the Southwest coast, stop in Lagos, or spend time in Albufeira before returning to Lisbon.

A long but rewarding day — expect 10 to 12 hours door to door.

      FAQ

      1. How long is the drive from Lisbon to the Algarve?

The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours each way. With Duca, the drive is part of the experience — we travel in premium vehicles equipped with Wi-Fi and climate control, so the crossing of the Alentejo plains is as enjoyable as the destination itself.

      2. Is the Benagil Cave boat trip included and private?

The boat excursion is arranged as part of your itinerary for a seamless day. The trip is shared with a small group — this is how the caves are visited safely. An exclusive boat can be arranged on request.

      3. Can we customise the stops along the way?

Yes. This is a private tour, so the day is yours to shape. We keep to a schedule on the way to Benagil to ensure we make the boat, but once the caves are done, your guide will help you decide what to explore next — whether that's the Southwest coast, Lagos, or Albufeira.

      4. What are the two departure times and what is the difference?

The 7 AM departure includes a coastal walk at Praia da Marinha and a stop at Boneca and Algar Seco before heading to the boat — a fuller morning on the coast. The 9 AM departure goes straight to Benagil, ideal if you prefer a more relaxed start.

      5. What happens if the sea conditions are rough?

Safety comes first. We monitor the weather closely and stay in contact with the boat crew. If the trip isn't possible, we'll let you know immediately so you can decide whether to cancel. If the caves are closed unexpectedly while we're already on the road, your guide will offer alternatives. We know this can be disappointing — we'll do everything we can to make your day in the Algarve worthwhile.

      6.  Can we get off the boat inside the caves?

No. Disembarking inside the sea caves has been prohibited by the Portuguese Maritime Authority for several years, for reasons of both safety and the preservation of the caves themselves. The experience is enjoyed from the boat, which gets you very close to the cave walls and through the natural openings — it is still one of the most memorable moments of the day.

      7.  Can we swim during the boat trip?

Yes — if ocean conditions allow, the captain may invite passengers to take a dip. It is one of those unexpected moments that makes the day truly memorable.

      8. Is there a chance of spotting dolphins or other marine mammals?

Occasionally, but it is rare. Dolphins typically live several miles offshore and seldom venture this close to the coast — this trip follows the coastline to visit the sea caves, not open water. If you would like to combine the cave visit with a dedicated dolphin watching excursion, please let us know immediately after booking. Payment for the dolphin trip is made directly on the boat.
